Lonesome Dove

Lonesome Dove

One of my favorite films that I have rented lately. Lonesome Dove was a miniseries on television circa 1989. The entire cast is a star studded extravaganza. The cast ranges from Robert Duvall to Tommy Lee Jones. Along for the ride is a boat load of other talented stars including Diane Lane, Danny Glover, and Steve Buscemi.

Cast: (not in its entirety)

  • Robert Duvall (Gus McCrae)
  • Tommy Lee Jones (Woodrow F. Call)
  • Steve Buscemi (Luke)
  • Danny Glover (Deets)
  • Diane Lane (Lorena "Lori" Wood)
  • Frederic Forrest (Blue Duck)
  • Robert Urich (Jake Spoon)
  • D.B. Sweeney (Dish Boggett)
  • Rick Schroder (Newt Dobbs)
  • Chris Cooper (July Johnson)
  • Anjelica Huston (Clara Allen)
  • Nina Siemaszko (Janey)

The movie consists of 384 minutes of run time! It's not at all tedious as Gus (Robert Duvall) will keep you entertained with his delightful mouthiness. Tommy Lee Jones (as Woodrow) gives an outstanding performance as his character struggles with fatherhood and overcoming a stone cold heart. Diane Lane plays the convincing part of an old saloon whore, which I found to be funny seeing here in a role like this. She does a great job, and creates a very lovable character.

The whole movie (or series, I guess I should say) is complete classic western. The Film is premised around a cattle drive from Texas to Montana. It is most definitely a nostalgic feeling movie, but a great one none-the-less. Make sure to check it out!
