The Worst Songs to Pick for Karaoke

"Karaoke isn't for everyone"
Karaoke isn't for everyone, but it's something you should try at least once in your life. Karaoke fans get to know the thrill of standing up on a stage and being under a bright spotlight. It's a chance for you to shine and forget about your everyday stress and obligations. It's really the only form of entertainment that allows you to be an active participant rather than just watching as you would with television or movies. You get to be a star and the entire room is entirely focused on you. And it doesn't matter who you are - you don't want to make a fool of yourself or get laughed off the stage. A successful karaoke performance depends on several factors and one of them is song choice. When you pick the right song, the crowd will be cheering for you as soon as they hear it. On the other hand, if you pick a song that is overdone, tired, or downright lame - don't be surprised if the audience isn't all that excited. Here are some of the worst songs you can pick for karaoke.

Friday by Rebecca Black - the thing to remember about this song is it was so much fun to watch on YouTube because it was so bad. But as a song itself, it has almost no redeeming qualities. You might be able to jazz up your performance with a bit of “cheese factor” to acknowledge the ridiculousness of the song itself, but chances are the crowd is still going to groan. Everyone has already had their fill of this less-than-stellar song and it's unlikely anyone will want to hear your rendition - although vocally speaking, it probably won't be any worse than Rebecca Black herself.

Brown Eyed Girl by Van Morrison - this is a great song. You love it, your friends love it, and every time it comes on the radio you sing along. But the fact this is such a great song means it's one of the most popular and over-used hits at any karaoke bar. It's almost impossible for any karaoke bar to go through a night without somebody singing this song, and if it happens to be you, you can be sure all of the waitresses and the bartenders will be rolling their eyes at your unoriginal song choice.

Anything Country - if you live in anything remotely resembling a city, no one wants to hear century karaoke. There is definitely a big market for it in the deep red states, but even there country songs are used sparingly throughout the night. There's just something about the tone and pace of country music that is not quite conducive for a party atmosphere. Of course there are more upbeat country tunes these days but they still require that recognizable country drawl that most people can't pull off.

I Will Always Love You by Whitney Houston - this is another extremely popular karaoke choice, but there are a few problems with it. For one, it's a very boring song until you get to the final exciting part. And once you get there, chances are you don't have the vocal chops to pull it off. There are very few singers in the world who can match what Whitney Houston did on this vocal track, and your attempt will probably pale in comparison. Even if you have a good voice and think you can pull it off, pick something more upbeat so that people don't get bored for the first 3 minutes of this song.

My Way by Frank Sinatra - this is a classic tune that everyone loves. The only problem when it comes to karaoke is - the song is cursed! Over in the Philippines, this song has been linked to numerous brawls and even a few murders. People over there believe this song is now cursed and you should avoid it at all costs. There are practical reasons for why violence seems to follow this song around that include people being very possessive of this tune. Especially since it's called “My Way” everyone thinks their rendition is the best. People who don't believe in curses would just say that karaoke fanatics fight over the right to sing this song which results in violence. But those who believe in more mystic forces would tell you to stay well away because this song could get you killed!

Just a Kiss - Lady Antebellum

Just a Kiss - Lady Antebellum

Lying here with you so close to me
It’s hard to fight these feelings
when it feels so hard to breathe
Caught up in this moment
Caught up in your smile

I never open up to anyone
So hard to hold back
when I’m holding you in my arms

We don’t need to rush this
Let’s just take it slow

Just a kiss on your lips in the moonlight
Just a touch of the fire burning so bright
I don’t want to mess this thing up
I don’t want to push too far
Just a shot in the dark that you just might
be the one I’ve been waiting for my whole life
So baby I’m alright with just a kiss goodnight

I know that if we give this a little time
it’ll only bring us closer to the love we wanna find
It’s never felt so real
No it’s never felt so right

[Chorus]

No i don’t want to say goodnight
I know it’s time to leave but you’ll be in my dreams
Tonight
Tonight
Tonight

[Chorus]

Let’s do this right with just a kiss goodnight
With a kiss goodnight
A kiss goodnight

Adele - Rolling In The Deep

Adele - Rolling In The Deep

There's a fire starting in my heart,
Reaching a fever pitch and it's bring me out the dark,

Finally, I can see you crystal clear,
Go ahead and sell me out and a I'll lay your ship bare,
See how I'll leave with every piece of you,
Don't underestimate the things that I will do,

There's a fire starting in my heart,
Reaching a fever pitch and it's bring me out the dark,

The scars of your love remind me of us,
They keep me thinking that we almost had it all,
The scars of your love, they leave me breathless,
I can't help feeling,

We could have had it all,
(You're gonna wish you never had met me),
Rolling in the deep,
(Tears are gonna fall, rolling in the deep),
You had my heart inside of your hand,
(You're gonna wish you never had met me),
And you played it to the beat,
(Tears are gonna fall, rolling in the deep),

Baby, I have no story to be told,
But I've heard one on you and I'm gonna make your head burn,
Think of me in the depths of your despair,
Make a home down there as mine sure won't be shared,

The scars of your love remind me of us,
(You're gonna wish you never had met me),
They keep me thinking that we almost had it all,
(Tears are gonna fall, rolling in the deep),
The scars of your love, they leave me breathless,
(You're gonna wish you never had met me),
I can't help feeling,
(Tears are gonna fall, rolling in the deep),

We could have had it all,
(You're gonna wish you never had met me),
Rolling in the deep,
(Tears are gonna fall, rolling in the deep),
You had my heart inside of your hands,
(You're gonna wish you never had met me),

And you played it to the beat,
(Tears are gonna fall, rolling in the deep),

Could have had it all,
Rolling in the deep,
You had my heart inside of your hands,
But you played it with a beating,

Throw your soul through every open door,
Count your blessings to find what you look for,
Turn my sorrow into treasured gold,
You'll pay me back in kind and reap just what you've sown,

(You're gonna wish you never had met me),
We could have had it all,
(Tears are gonna fall, rolling in the deep),
We could have had it all,
(You're gonna wish you never had met me),
It all, it all, it all,
(Tears are gonna fall, rolling in the deep),

We could have had it all,
(You're gonna wish you never had met me),
Rolling in the deep,
(Tears are gonna fall, rolling in the deep),
You had my heart inside of your hands,
(You're gonna wish you never had met me),
And you played it to the beat,
(Tears are gonna fall, rolling in the deep),

Could have had it all,
(You're gonna wish you never had met me),
Rolling in the deep,
(Tears are gonna fall, rolling in the deep),
You had my heart inside of your hands,
(You're gonna wish you never had met me),

But you played it,
You played it,
You played it,
You played it to the beat.

Rebecca Black Friday Lyrics

Rebecca Black Friday

Rebecca Black - Friday
Rebecca Black's Friday is one of the fastest rising pop songs at the moment. Twitter has been set ablaze with tweets about Rebecca. A group called Ark Music Factory is said to be behind the song's viral video. Most of the buzz surrounding is the video isn't actually a good buzz. People are calling it one of the worst songs ever made (E! online recently published an article posing this question). The lyrics are a little basic, but the girl is young. MTV described the girl as a "13-year-old version of Ke$ha." You decide...

Rebecca Black Friday Lyrics

(Yeah, Ah-Ah-Ah-Ah-Ah-Ark)
Oo-ooh-ooh, hoo yeah, yeah
Yeah, yeah
Yeah-ah-ah
Yeah-ah-ah
Yeah-ah-ah
Yeah-ah-ah
Yeah, yeah, yeah

7am, waking up in the morning
Gotta be fresh, gotta go downstairs
Gotta have my bowl, gotta have cereal
Seein’ everything, the time is goin’
Tickin’ on and on, everybody’s rushin’
Gotta get down to the bus stop
Gotta catch my bus, I see my friends (My friends)

Kickin’ in the front seat
Sittin’ in the back seat
Gotta make my mind up
Which seat can I take?

It’s Friday, Friday
Gotta get down on Friday
Everybody’s lookin’ forward to the weekend, weekend
Friday, Friday
Gettin’ down on Friday
Everybody’s lookin’ forward to the weekend

Partyin’, partyin’ (Yeah)
Partyin’, partyin’ (Yeah)
Fun, fun, fun, fun
Lookin’ forward to the weekend

7:45, we’re drivin’ on the highway
Cruisin’ so fast, I want time to fly
Fun, fun, think about fun
You know what it is
I got this, you got this
My friend is by my right
I got this, you got this
Now you know it

Kickin’ in the front seat
Sittin’ in the back seat
Gotta make my mind up
Which seat can I take?

It’s Friday, Friday
Gotta get down on Friday
Everybody’s lookin’ forward to the weekend, weekend
Friday, Friday

Gettin’ down on Friday
Everybody’s lookin’ forward to the weekend

[chorus]

Partyin’, partyin’ (Yeah)
Partyin’, partyin’ (Yeah)
Fun, fun, fun, fun
Lookin’ forward to the weekend

Yesterday was Thursday, Thursday
Today i-is Friday, Friday (Partyin’)
We-we-we so excited
We so excited
We gonna have a ball today

Tomorrow is Saturday
And Sunday comes after...wards
I don’t want this weekend to end

R-B, Rebecca Black
So chillin’ in the front seat (In the front seat)
In the back seat (In the back seat)
I’m drivin’, cruisin’ (Yeah, yeah)
Fast lanes, switchin’ lanes
Wit’ a car up on my side (Woo!)
(C’mon) Passin’ by is a school bus in front of me
Makes tick tock, tick tock, wanna scream
Check my time, it’s Friday, it’s a weekend
We gonna have fun, c’mon, c’mon, y’all

It’s Friday, Friday
Gotta get down on Friday
Everybody’s lookin’ forward to the weekend, weekend
Friday, Friday
Gettin’ down on Friday
Everybody’s lookin’ forward to the weekend

[chorus]

Partyin’, partyin’ (Yeah)
Partyin’, partyin’ (Yeah)
Fun, fun, fun, fun
Lookin’ forward to the weekend

It’s Friday, Friday
Gotta get down on Friday
Everybody’s lookin’ forward to the weekend, weekend
Friday, Friday
Gettin’ down on Friday
Everybody’s lookin’ forward to the weekend

Partyin’, partyin’ (Yeah)
Partyin’, partyin’ (Yeah)
Fun, fun, fun, fun
Lookin’ forward to the weekend

Sons of Guns Song | Theme

Sons of Guns Song

Sons of Guns - Red Jacket Firearms
The inspiration for this post was the quest to find the artist that sings the Sons of Guns song, the theme in the opening sequence. Sons of Guns, if you don't know, is a new hit series on the Discovery Channel. It chronicles the staff of Red Jacket Firearms.

Red Jacket Firearms is based in Baton Rouge, LA, was founded by Will Hayden. Hayden, an ex-Marine, grew up with an extensive self education of warfare and firearms. Will has actually brought his daughter Stephanie Hayden on as a business partner and manager. Much of Red Jacket's success is owed to other members of the staff, some most frequently seen are gunsmith Vincent Buckles, and apprentice Kris Ford (don't forget about gunsmith Joe Meaux).

Sons of Guns Theme Song & Music Video - Shelter Me

The theme song for Sons of Guns is sang by Tab Benoit, and is called "Shelter Me." The version on the T.V. show is actually a remake of the classic by Buddy Miller. The song has been a popular question floating around the web lately. So if you found it here, enjoy!

Shelter Me Lyrics

The Earth can shake, the sky come down,
the mountains all fall to the ground.
But I will fear none of these things,
shelter me Lord underneath your wings.

Dark waters rise and thunders pound,
the wheels of war are going round
and all the walls are crumbling
shelter me Lord underneath your wings.

(Shelter me Lord)
Hide me underneath you wings,
hide me deep inside your heart
in your refuge - cover me
the world can shake
but Lord I'm making you my hiding place.

The wind can blow, the rain can pour,
the deluge breaks, the tempest roars
but in the storm my spirit sings
(when you) shelter me Lord underneath your wings.

(Shelter me Lord)
Hide me underneath you wings,
hide me deep inside your heart,
in your refuge - cover me,
the world can shake
but Lord I'm making you my hiding place.

Now on the day you call for me
someday when time - no more shall be,
I'll say oh Death where is your sting,
you shelter me Lord underneath your wings.

The Classic Sex Song

The Quintessential, Classic Sex Song by Kate Bush

The Ultimate Sex Song
I have been cracking out on GrooveShark lately (if you are elderly or live in your mother's basement... "cracking out" simply means I use it a lot), and making playlists of this, and that. At one point, I found my self asking "What's the name of that one sex song?" Yes, I talked to and questioned myself. Yes, I said 'sex song.' I don't think anyone can deny that this is the classic sex song, when they stop and think about it. It's been on every cheesy television show, and every love movie since the late 80s and I think most notably, at least according to my quick, lazy, and unscientific internet research, Love & Basketball).

The Song: This Woman's Work

I actually found the song title and artist's name on Yahoo! Answers. Believe it or not, under the search term "sex song." So, rest assured it's not just my opinion. This Woman's Work seems that it has spawned a bit of an online argument as to who sang it better. The original is by Kate Bush, and the more contemporary version was done by R&B singer Maxwell. I don't believe I had ever heard the Kate Bush version, so I am partial to the Maxwell version myself. However, a lot of people who are pro Kate Bush (see what I did there? Now it feels political, right?) describe her's as haunting, especially during the song's crescendo. You be the judge.

This Woman's Work Video - Kate Bush Version

This Woman's Work Video - Maxwell Version

This Woman's Work Lyrics
Pray God you can cope.
I stand outside this woman's work,
This woman's world.
Ooh, it's hard on the man,
Now his part is over.
Now starts the craft of the father.

I know you have a little life in you yet.
I know you have a lot of strength left.
I know you have a little life in you yet.
I know you have a lot of strength left.

I should be crying, but I just can't let it show.
I should be hoping, but I can't stop thinking

Of all the things we should've said,
That we never said.
All the things we should've done,
That we never did.
All the things we should've given,
But I didn't.

Oh, darling, make it go,
Make it go away.

Give me these moments back.
Give them back to me.
Give me that little kiss.
Give me your hand.

(I know you have a little life in you yet.
I know you have a lot of strength left.
I know you have a little life in you yet.
I know you have a lot of strength left.)

I should be crying, but I just can't let it show.
I should be hoping, but I can't stop thinking

Of all the things we should've said,
That were never said.
All the things we should've done,
That we never did.
All the things that you needed from me.
All the things that you wanted for me.
All the things that I should've given,
But I didn't.

Oh, darling, make it go away.
Just make it go away now.

Joe Cocker Lyrics

Joe Cocker Lyrics - With A Little Help From My Friends

Joe Cocker
It's hard to hear these Joe Cocker Lyrics without thinking of The Wonder Years. That old film strip with Kevin Arnold, Paul Pfeiffer, Winne Cooper, and the gang running around the neighborhood. "With A Little Help From My Friends" is one of the most recognizable rocks songs of Joe Cocker, or arguably, for rock music in general.

What would you do if I sang out of tune?
Would you stand up and walk out on me?
Lend me your ears and I'll sing you a song
I will try not to sing out of key

Oh baby I get by
(Get by with a little help from my friends)
All I need is my brother
(Get by with a little help from my friends)
I say I want to get high with them
(Get high with a little help from my friends)
Whoah, yeah
(Ooh, ooh, ooh)

What do I do when my love is away?
(Does it worry you to be all alone?)
No, no.

How do I feel at the end of the day?
(Are you sad 'cause you're on your own?)
I tell you I don't even say it no more.

(Get by with a little help from my friends)
Gonna get by with my friends
(Get high with a little help from my friends)
Yeah, yeah, yeah I'm gonna try
(Try with a little help from my friends)
Keep on getting high oh, oh
(Ooh, ooh, ooh)

(Do you need anybody?)
I need someone to love
(Could it be anybody?)
All I need is someone
Know just where I'm going, yeah
Somebody knows what I'm showing

Baby!

(Get by with a little help from my friends)
Said I'm gonna make it with my friends
(Try with a little help from my friends)
Oh, oh I'm gonna keep on trying, yeah, yeah
(Get high with a little help from my friends)
I'm gonna keep on trying, now babe

(Would you believe in a love at first sight?)
I'm certain it happens all the time, yeah
(What do you see when you turn out the light?)
I can't tell you, but it sure feels like mine, now

(I get by with a little help from my friends)
Don't you know I'm going to make it with my friends?
(Try with a little help from my friends)
I promised myself I'd get by
(Get high with a little help from my friends)
Said I'm gonna try it, but not too hard
(Ooh, ooh, ooh)

(Do you need anybody?)
Whoah
Yeah, yeah, yeah
(Could it be anybody?)
Oh, it's gotta be somebody
Gonna treat me right
Somebody take me there now
Oh yeah, yeah

(Get by with a little help from my friends)
Said I'm gonna get by with my friends
(Try with a little help from my friends)
Oh yes, I'm gonna keep trying now
(Get high with a little help from my friends)
Keep on trying with my friends
(Get by with a little help from my friends)
Oh, ain't nothing gonna stop me anymore
(Try with a little help from my friends)
I'm gonna keep on trying now
(Get high with a little help from my friends)
I'm getting high
I'm gonna make time, no no
(Ooh, ooh, ooh)
Gonna get by with my friends
Oh, I'm gonna get on by
Yes, I'm gonna get on by, yeah
Gonna take 'em all along with me
I'm gonna take 'em all along, yeah, yeah
Yeah, yeah

I'm doing this in every way I feel it in the morning sign
Oh, I'm gonna take my friends along with me
I get by with a little help from my friends

Bar music- A species that never fades

Guest Post:
Call it bar music, call it pub music, club music, karaoke or whatever, the fact is that this sort of music has been around in human society forever. It’s really “social” music, derived from singalongs, dances and other cultural get-togethers since the Stone Age. In London bars, New York bars, Sydney bars or anywhere else on Earth, music is part of the social scene.

A short history of bar music

Bar music in its modern form first really started during the 19th century in America, transplanted to some extent from Europe and Ireland. Music was played in bordellos, bars, and soon became an accepted part of the social scene. Jazz expanded the range of the music to clubs during Prohibition, and this social version became the standard for the post-war generations.

This early live music in bars and clubs translated soon enough into recorded music like juke boxes, followed by DJs and dancing in the 1950s. By the 1960s, bar music was the standard, and the explosion of pop music around the world made music an indispensable part of any bar, club, restaurant and even diners.

Disco and live rock turned the music into the main attractions for bars and clubs. The entertainment became a business venture in its own right, and many bar and club owners weren’t slow to realize that the music was driving a lot of business their way.

The bars repaid the favor to musicians, too. Many of the world’s biggest bands got their start in pubs and clubs. Even the Beatles and Rolling Stones got started in The Cavern and the Richmond clubs. Blues clubs helped top class musicians like Eric Clapton and John Mayall get started. Music and bars had a sort of symbiosis, which persists to this day in various forms.

Modern bars and modern music

The music has changed, the bars have changed. In the past, if anyone had even suggested that patrons get up and sing in karaoke style, nobody would have believed it. Pop music is still “hook music”, though, catchy and fun, and that’s the main driver. Music is no longer a spectator sport, and anyone prepared to try their luck in a local music night or karaoke bar is welcome to try.

The culture has also changed, arguably much for the better. In the mid 60s, specialist music bars started up, with country/rockabilly, jazz, soul and rock bars as the basic formats. This was originally because the bar owners had their own preferences, but it turned out to be a very good idea, attracting patrons and a lot more business, particularly for live music.

Wherever you go, music will be there waiting in the bars and clubs.

Bar music is flexible, adaptable, and a lot of fun, whether it’s just pop, or the most exotic type of new music. Bars have become the places to listen to music and have a good night out. This is the real “world music”, and it’s everywhere.

SLNL: Wii Fit Plus

Wii Fit Plus and Balance Board

Running on the Wii Fit Plus
The Wii Fit Plus is one of the most popular home fitness items of the new year! It's a good way to go in your efforts to shed those holiday pounds. Fun and health for the whole family! Great for kids, and adults. The Nintendo Wii Fit Plus and Balance Board is the perfect addition to your wellness arsenal.

The Wii Fit Plus faces new competition with Microsoft's Xbox 360 release of the Kinect. The Kinect is counting on capitalizing off the insane popularity of the Nintendo Wii and utilizes the same motion-control concept technology. Unlike the Wii Fit Plus, the Kinect motion control gaming system focuses on more graphics than it's predecessor. The Wii Fit Plus does however have the fun and kid friendly graphics. There is a great recap and comparison of the two gaming systems at IGN.com titled: Kinect Vs. Wii.

Wii Fit Plus Action Shot

Wii Fit Plus Games

The Wii Fit has some amazingly great games. Among some of the hottest titles are The Biggest Loser Challenge, Just Dance 2, Michael Jackson The Experience, and Gold's Gym Dance Workout. Are we sensing a theme here? I think fans of the Wii Fit will be pleased as year progresses and more titles become available (hopefully with a larger variety of video game options). One final item of interest is the Nintendo Wii Fit Board Anti-Slip Grip Foot Pad Silicone Skins, that are available in an array of colors and help to customize your Balance Board for under $10.
