Wasted Money
"Can I get a refund?" "Wow..." "What the hell did I just watch?" These were all thoughts that came to my mind after watching Clive Owen and Naomi Watts tonight. I don't normally waste my time with film reviews online.
However, I feel that I should warn you all. I feel like Hollywood robbed me tonight. This movie just sucks. BAD. Avoid it all costs. The acting is bad. The lines are horrible. The plot is... worse, non-existent even.
This movie was so bad, that the idiot alpha-male sitting behind my friend and I shouted "You've gotta be shitting me!" at the movie's end. You know that when the stupid guy is angry that a shoot'em up sucked... it REALLY SUCKED! Amazing.
Naomi Watts just couldn't act in this movie. Horrible lines, or horrible delivery... I'm not sure. I do know that when you multiply anything by zero the end result is the same though. The worst part of the movie is when Clive and Naomi investigate an assassination crime seen, and haphazardly find a bullet's trajectory. BARF.
Look, I'm not the type that normally goes out and creates a smear campaign, just to run my mouth. Since one of the major focuses of this blog is film... I feel it is my duty to warn the public about The International. Critics aren't always right, and I don't expect you to take my word for it. I DO expect that you do a little homework on this movie though. I'd say that you should avoid it like the plague... but this movie and the plague came a knockin' on my door and I had to choose... it'd be the plague every time. Excuse me now... I need to go spit.

Justin James - Sun Drenched
Artist: Justin James
Album: Sun Drenched
Alright... a little background information for you first. I learned about Justin James on Pandora. Pandora is quite possibly the best thing ever to happen to web, it blends both the power of the internet and the beauty of music.
Pandora is a fully customizable radio with multiple stations. You can literally tailor music stations to your tastes. Mine, for example, include a country channel, a rap channel, and an acoustic channel. You can get even more mixed or more specific from there. For example I have a station called "Chill Rap" which has the more smooth R&B style of rap songs. I also have station that is called "Good Times" radio (which stems from Tommy Lee's song Good Times). Good Times Radio is just basically a station that I approve songs that put me in a good mood.
My favorite feature of Pandora is the thumbs up, thumbs down button. Hear a song you can't stand? Give it a thumbs down and you'll never hear it again. It will also avoid playing songs with similar qualities to that one. If it's just not right for that station, you have the ability to move it to another. The thumbs up tells Pandora to bring you more songs like that. You can also click for more info on the artist, the track, the album, etc. From there you can purchase the MP3 from Apple or Amazon. Pandora is pure sweetness! (Are you jealous candied apple?)

Justin James - Sun Drenched
Alright, on to main subject. Justin James is cool west coast music. I'd call his style a blend of poppy riffs and lyrics, coupled with laid back, beach rock guitar (you are welcome to call me out on this, as I am not a music aficionado). Justin's sound kind of makes feel like I'm on an island or somewhere relaxing... much like Kenny Chesney's new direction.
One day, while trading (yes, trading futures... see my blog about that here http://www.biz-tone.blogspot.com) and checking the charts... I am listening to Pandora, then I hear an upbeat melody radiate from my computer. Curious, I minimize my charting windows and direct my attention to Pandora's artist and track details. Low and behold, I'm introduced to the music of Justin James.
The song Right here, Right now was playing. It's really the only one of his I'd heard. I think it's a pretty bad ass song. After doing a little more recent research, I've come to also like the song California by Justin. In fact while writing this article and viewing his official web page, I haven't found a song of his I don't like... I tried finding MP3 tracks to embed of Right Here, Right now... but it has been pretty damn hard. If you're interested, check out the album.

Justin James is signed to 10 Spot Records, which sounds like it is a semi-indie record label. From my understanding, they do have ties to larger music venues for distribution purposes. You can also find Justin James listed at 10 Spot Records.

Downloading MP3s
I'm charging the Sansa View, which I recently bought (see Got a new Sansa View!). Meanwhile, I downloaded Rhapsody, which apparently has some unholy, soul selling agreement with Best Buy. It's kind of a pain navigating the whole Rhapsody/Best Buy layout. Maybe, I'm just not used to it yet. We'll see.
My first Rhapsody purchase was The New Radicals, Maybe You've Been Brainwashed Too. You might remember my posts The New Radicals- You get what you give or The New Radicals (Post 2/2) . I'm a little worried right now, because mid-way through, I changed my wireless connection to a stronger signal, trying to speed the download... I then got an error notification on my download bar. Hopefully this doesn't effect anything or corrupt my music files.
I'm a little confused right now, as the download has finished. I'm going to try and import the files on to the View. We'll go from there. Next post is going to be Justin James. Stay tuned.

Got a new Sansa View!
MP3 MUSIC PLAYER
Today, I was fortunate enough to come into a little unforeseen money from work. I have been acquiring Best Buy gift cards for a while now (birthday, Christmas), in hopes of buying a solid MP3 player. I think I hit it right on the money. I headed over with gift cards in hand to Best Buy. I investigated all the MP3 players they had in stock, for a good 20 minutes or so. I had already done prior online research.
I asked around about the all the players. This seemed to be the best non-Apple MP3 product for the money! It has all the features I want, and then some. I wanted to make sure to avoid getting any form of Apple iPods. I have several friends and a family member who have had trouble the iPod's scrolling mechanism. When they ask for this to be made right, they are met with shrugs from Apple. They are told to buy a new one. BUY A NEW ONE?! No thank you. Apple lost me as customer... (they would have had me if I had never heard of this problem).
The Sansa View
This is an awesome MP3 player! It has video, music, photos, FM radio, and a bunch of other stuff that I most likely will never use. I got the 16GB version, due to large amounts of CDs that I need to convert to music files.
I have around 300 CDs, give or take, that are bulky and inefficient. I don't like keeping them in my car, but also like to have variety. The Sansa View was my perfect solution! It was time for me to embrace today's technology. Do your research on this bad boy, it's the BEST MP3 player you'll find for the money!

There are 87.7 million Google search results for Britney. According to this Forbes article, Britney Spears is worth over $100 million dollars.
Britney Jean Spears was born December 2, 1981. She grew up as a child singer, appearing on shows such as Star Search and Disney kid shows. From time to time, I will post notable or milestone artists, albums, or songs to this blog. I recently overheard some of Britney Spears successes and thought it might be worth mentioning just out of amazement really. Her countless successes and personal resolve has earned her an honorable mention on http://www.songlyricsnlines.blogspot.com!
I remember being in high school and just being wowed by her beauty. I fell in love with Britney Spears. This crush on Britney has since ceased to exist, but now I am wowed by her success. It is just simply insane if you take a moment to think about what she has accomplished in the last 10 years.

Shawn Mullins- And on a rainy night
This is one of my all time favorite albums to play. It's dependable for solid acoustic guitar and haunting vocals. When I lose all faith in music, thanks to current pop radio and media machine that is MTV, VH1, and the like... I like to throw in CDs like Shawn Mullins: Soul's Core. It's loaded with awesome tracks, and one you can let play all the way through.
This album is good for all the right reasons...
(1) The only song on the album that got any major attention or radio play is Lullaby. Which was a good song, but not the best on the album in my opinion. Shawn isn't an artist that has been played to death, so the music isn't force-fed to you. I've been turned sour on many songs I really like, due the fact that radio just won't stop playing them. Kid Rock's All Summer Long came close to being one of these (although, I must admit I still love that song and album anyway).
(2) Shawn's voice is soulful. It isn't that typical hair band screamer, nor is it the soprano Justin Timberlake/Akon like style you hear so much of. It's rich and unique. I feel it sets his music apart from a lot of the stuff that's out there. To sum it up, it's a nice change from the norm.
(3) He does what any good musician or story teller should. He paints a picture for the listener. I like this album, because when I listen to it, it's like watching a movie. He's descriptive enough to give you the picture, but also vague enough to let you fill in the missing pieces... giving the music a refreshing, deep quality to it.
(4) There are no label plugs or artist branding type shout outs in his music. You won't hear "Bad boy, konvict, shady, roca fella, lamb, or g-unit," shouted out at any time listening to Shawn. It seems like every new artist has gotten into the habit of plugging the label in every song, or some sort of stupid self-promotion. If you want to avoid listening to garbage of this nature... stick to artists like Shawn!
I would have loved to embed an MP3 for you to listen to this song.... but it was so hard to find! I looked online for like 45 minutes! I even tried to find it on old Amazon. The closest I got to finding it was on yahoo, trying to connect via Rhapsody (See image on right)...No luck (if you know of a place that I can add it from, let me know!). It's great album none the less and should pick it up for your collection if you don't already have it.
(UPDATE! You can listen to it here, you just have to select it by title... I could not embed it though).
Song Lyrics: Shawn Mullins- And On A Rainy Night Lyrics
February rain smoky mountain fire
like a hummingbird to cane
just following desire
watch the firelight
throw shadows across the room
many miles away
not far from cannery row
he beats on his guitar
and does his little show
and all the people say
you got balls to play the game this way
it's one in a million
so he fills all the holes
with good wine from mussel sholes
and the cencemillian
these streets were bound to cross
maybe lifetimes ago
whenever innocence is lost
we got a long way to go
we got a long way
watch the firelight throw
shadows across the room
and on a rainy night
two lovers held each other tight
in the moonlight (he felt so good in her arms)
in the moonlight (he felt so good in her arms)
in the moonlight (he felt so good in her arms)

Song Lyrics- Don't Stop Believing
Song Lyrics -Journey: Don't Stop Believing
I have mixed emotions about the band Journey. The first time I had heard of Journey was through a friend's mom. My best friend was dating this girl, we both had had classes in high school with her. We were over at her place one night, while he was trying to lay the mack down. Spread out on various couches, we were sitting in the living room one summer night. Some how, though I'll never remember now... the conversation turned to Journey. I piped up "who's Journey?" Shocked, hurt, and stunned, they looked at me. "You've never heard of Journey!?!" Puzzled, I answered: "No, what do they sing?" A never ending list of all Journey's hit song were rattled off. "Nope, I don't know any of those."
A hunt for an album ensued. It was soon retrieved and in the CD player. Strange music and awful soprano singing started to take place. I looked around at all of them, I was sure the joke was about to end. No one laughed... I wondered, this is the epic band they just described to me? The so called "best band of all time" (according to her mom)? No way!
Leaving her house that night, my friend and I had decided to seek out some late night grubbage. We were doing an evening wrap up and shooting the shit. "Dude, that band they played... is gay." My friend laughed, "that's like one of my dad's favorite hair bands. I can't believe you had never heard of them."
Fast Forward to my college years
My sister moves to my college town to join a friend of mine and I on some business projects we were working on. While in the process of moving in with us, her ex-boyfriend/ good friend accompanies her to help with the move. We spent a lot time during this period drinking.
One night, while really getting it done, we're all singing while iTunes plays on shuffle. An impromptu dance-a-thon / sing-a-long breaks out. Bottle caps fly, as do drunken lyrics to various songs. All of the sudden, that unmistakable piano riff begins. My sister's eyes light up, she looks at him. They both go into a Journey induced trance. The most unforgettable, epic sing a long and dance takes place. Word for word they dramatically and passionately rock this song. It breaks down my soprano hating wall, and I laugh... I laugh long and hard. I am now unsure of how I feel about Journey's Don't Stop Believing.

The Lyrics
Don't Stop Believing by Journey
Just a small town girl, livin in a lonely world
She took the midnight train goin anywhere
Just a city boy, born and raised in south Detroit
He took the midnight train goin anywhere
A singer in a smokey room
A smell of wine and cheap perfume
For a smile they can share the night
It goes on and on and on and on
Strangers waiting, up and down the boulevard
Their shadows searching in the night
Streetlight people, living just to find emotion
Hiding, somewhere in the night
Working hard to get my fill,
Everybody wants a thrill
Payin anything to roll the dice,
Just one more time
Some will win, some will lose
Some were born to sing the blues
Oh, the movie never ends
It goes on and on and on and on
(chorus)
Dont stop believin
Hold on to the feelin
Streetlight people

Song Lyrics - I want to sex you up
Song Lyrics-I want to sex you up by Color Me Badd
A co-worker and I were playing a little game the other day. The goal was to name off as many old songs as you could, or sing lines from songs you could remember. It was just one of those basic games where there is no real winner, but you just try come up with a bunch of songs that each other probably knows. Then this diddy from the 90's popped up.
Upon finding this video... I came to the horrible realization that the 1990's fashion was very unkind to Color Me Badd. These guys all look like they should be cruising the playground in a van with tinted windows. It's almost creepy how they look like a walking, singing, criminal line-up. None the less... the song is an old school classic.
The Lyrics
Come inside, take off your coat, I'll make you feel at home.
Now let's pour a glass of wine 'cause now we're all alone.
I've been waiting all night so just let me hold you close to me,
'Cause I've been dyin' for you girl and make love to me.
Girl you make me feel real good.
We can do it 'til we both wake up.
Girl, you know I'm hooked on you,
And this is what I'll do...
I wanna sex you up.
All night.
You make me feel real good.
I wanna rub you down.
I wanna sex you up.
Let me take off all your clothes.
Disconnect the phone so nobody knows.
Let me light a candle,
So that we can make it better.
Makin' love until we drown.
Girl, you know it feels real good.
We can do it 'til we both wake up.
Girl you know I'm hooked on you.
And this is what I'll do.
*CHORUS*
Make sweet lovin' all night long...
(I wanna sex you up)
Feels so right it can't be wrong...
Don't be shy girl rescue me...
(i wanna sex you up)
Open up your heart and I'll set you free...

American Pie - Don McLean Lyrics
Song Lyrics - Don McLean's American Pie
One of those songs that is literally a classic! Just plain and simple good music. Oldie, but a goody. You know that type of thing?
I have memories from childhood of this song. I can remember driving with my dad in the summer somewhere. This song came on, and I was instantly hooked. Through out childhood, the family sang along to this song as it would randomly cross the airwaves.
Although, we never owned a tape or CD with this song on it. So it was always one of those special songs, that would come on by chance. We all loved it, even though no one knew all the lyrics! Enjoy.
Don McLean's American Pie Lyrics
A long, long time ago
I can still remember how that music used to make me smile
And, I knew if I had my chance that I could make those people dance,
and...
Maybe they'd be happy for a while
But, February made me shiver with every paper I'd deliver
Bad news on the doorstep - I couldn't take one more step
I can't remember if I cried when I read about his widowed bride
Something touched me deep inside the day the music died
So, bye bye Miss American Pie
Drove my Chevy to the levee, but the levee was dry
Them good ol' boys were drinking whiskey and rye, singing...
This'll be the day that I die
This'll be the day that I die
Did you write the Book of Love and do you have faith in God, above?
If the Bible tells you so
Now, do you believe in Rock and Roll? Can music save your mortal soul?
And...
Can you teach me how to dance real slow?
Well, I know that you're in love with him, 'cause I saw you dancing in the gym
You both kicked off your shoes - man, I dig those rhythm and blues
I was a lonely, teenage broncin' buck with a pink carnation and a pickup truck, but...
I knew I was out of luck the day the music died
I started singing, bye bye Miss American Pie
Drove my Chevy to the levee, but the levee was dry
Them good ol' boys were drinking whiskey and rye, singing...
This'll be the day that I die
This'll be the day that I die
Now, for ten years we've been on our own and moss grows fat on a Rolling Stone, but...
That's not how it used to be
When the Jester sang for the king and queen in a coat he borrowed from
James Dean
In a voice that came from you and me
Oh, and while the King was looking down the Jester stole his thorny crown
The courtroom was adjourned - no verdict was returned
And, while Lennon read a book on Marx the quartet practiced in the park,
and... We sang dirges in the dark the day the music died
We were singing, bye bye Miss American Pie
Drove my Chevy to the levee, but the levee was dry
Them good ol' boys were drinking whiskey and rye, singing...
This'll be the day that I die
This'll be the day that I die
Healter Skealter in the summer swelter - the Byrds flew off with a fallout shelter
Eight Miles High and falling fast
It landed foul on the grass
The players tried for a forward pass with the Jester on the sidelines in a cast
Now, the halftime aire was sweet perfume while the Sergeants played a marching tune
We all got up to dance, oh, but we never got the chance
'cause the players tried to take the field - the marching band refused to yield
Do you recall what was revealed the day the music died?
We started singing, bye bye Miss American Pie
Drove my Chevy to the levee, but the levee was dry
Them good ol' boys were drinking whiskey and rye, singing...
This'll be the day that I die
This'll be the day that I die
And, there we were, all in one place - a generation Lost in Space
With no time left to start again
So, come on, Jack be nimble, Jack be quick - Jack Flash sat on a Candlestick, 'cause...
Fire is the Devil's only friend
And, as I watched him on the stage my hands were clenched in fists of rage
No angel born in Hell could break that satan's spell
And, as the flames climbed high into the night to light the sacrificial rite, I saw...
Satan laughing with delight the day the music died
He was singing, bye bye Miss American Pie
Drove my Chevy to the levee, but the levee was dry
Them good ol' boys were drinking whiskey and rye, singing...
This'll be the day that I die
This'll be the day that I die
I met a girl who sang the Blues, and I asked her for some happy news
She just smiled and turned away
I went down to the sacred store where I'd heard the music years before,
but...
The man there said the music wouldn't play
And, in the streets the children screamed, the lover's cried, and the poets dreamed, but...
Not a word was spoken - the church bells all were broken
And, the three men I admire most: the Father, Son, and the Holy Ghost,
they...
Caught the last train for the coast the day the music died
And, they were singing, bye bye Miss American Pie
Drove my Chevy to the levee, but the levee was dry
Them good ol' boys were drinking whiskey and rye, singing...
This'll be the day that I die
This'll be the day that I die
They were singing, bye bye Miss American Pie
Drove my Chevy to the levee, but the levee was dry
Them good ol' boys were drinking whiskey and rye, singing...
This'll be the day that I die
