Lately, I've been avoiding the radio like the public school system attempts to avoid the swine flu. I'm sure every generation goes through this, but I feel that music is on its death bed. Ok.... ok, that might be a little dramatic, but there's truth to it! So I'm kicking back a little old school with my top ten music playlist for October.

Star Wars: The Old Republic Free Trailer

OK, truth be told... I don't really get into these types of video games. I think they come with kind of a nerdy stigma, and they just really don't float my boat. Star Wars: The Old Republic on the other hand... well, let's just say: Sign me up.

Just watching the Star Wars Old Republic trailer makes me want to take a seat at the nerd table. Cancel my prom date, I'm staying home to play STAR WARS! The cool kids will talk about prom memories... I will talk about how I dominated the Republic in level two.

There is no denying the masterful ability that Hendrix had to bend the bounds of music on the old six string. While I now stand in an awe filled respect for the man's talent, I have to admit, at first I hated his music. Although, in all honesty, I don't know that I ever even knew what songs stemmed from this artist, the genius that is Hendrix.

I have a new addiction. It's Pawn Stars on the History Channel. It's a show on a family run pawn business, with three generations at the helm of a wayward ship. The three generations consist of the grandfather "The Old man," or Richard Harrison. The son/father, "The Spotter" (although I have yet to hear him called that on the show), or Rick Harrison. The son/grandson, "Big Hoss," or Corey Harrison.
The show chronicles the bizarre and unique items that come into pawn shops. Everything from old war and military items, to celebrity memorabilia, to your basic items. The first step the Pawn Stars take in completing a deal is determining if the customer wants to Pawn an item, or to sell the item.
Pawning an item consists of taking it in as collateral, and loaning money. The customer then has a set number of days to return the money (plus interest). If they do not, the item then becomes the pawn business' money. This has been established as one of the first and most basic forms of credit. The customer can also just sell the item. Bring it in, negotiate a price, and make the deal.

The New Kindle

The Kindle is a device that allows the user to download books and store them on the device. Want something off of the New York Times best seller list? Turn on the Kindle and begin downloading. Within a minute you can have a whole book in your finger tips. It's that simple and apparently very clear and easy on the eyes while reading.

I remember first hearing about the Kindle on an episode of Oprah. Of course once Oprah endorsed this bad boy the whole world had to have one. The problem was that I was skeptical... well, that and intrigued. Is it just a gimmick, or would you really be able to read an entire book off this device? I don't mean that in the sense of "...is it possible?" I know the information would transfer. My question was if I could physically stare at a screen and make my way through chapter after chapter on an electric device like the Kindle. I suppose the Kindle couldn't be all that different than the time I spend online reading things. That is something that makes the Kindle appealing and interesting.
